LAURIE SMALLEY is a woman who touches many lives. She currently serves as Outreach Pastor at the Houghton Wesleyan Church. She volunteers as the Chaplain for the Absolute Care center in Houghton, and teaches Bible classes at Houghton Academy. She reaches out to others through music, as well.
According to Laurie, “I play music that will hopefully inspire people to think about the words to the old hymns - so they might remember how much they are loved by the Lord.”
On Saturday, December 4th, she’ll perform sacred, classical and Christmas music on folk harp at Black-Eyed Susan Acoustic Café.
Laurie has performed at church services, weddings, Victorian tea parties, ladies gatherings, Valentines Day dinners, nursing homes, and special events such as receptions, art shows and meetings. She states, “My desire is to bring glory and praise to my Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Proprietor Don Ash of Black-Eyed Susan Acoustic Café remarks, “Anytime is a good time to listen to Laurie playing her harp. But at the beginning of the Christmas season it’s especially moving. Her music makes me slow down.”
The doors at Black-Eyed Susan open at 11:00 a.m. every Saturday for lunch, with dinner, specialty coffees and desserts starting at 4:30 p.m. Enjoy the mellow sounds of JIM SCHWARTZ on guitar at 6:00, with LAURIE SMALLEY beginning at 7:30 p.m. There is no cover charge, but guests are expected to contribute to the musician’s tip jar. The kitchen remains open on Saturdays until 10:00 p.m. and the café closes at 11:00. Reservations for dinner -- while never necessary -- are strongly encouraged. Lunch is served weekdays from 11:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
