Chorduroy, a registered barbershop quartet will perform at the Olean Public Library on Wednesday, December 15 at 7 pm in the Art Gallery. Members include Pat Close, Mashall Allen, Ted Norton and Peter Kurzdorfer.
After retiring from the U.S. Navy, Mr. Close decided to return to live in his hometown of Franklinville , NY . A talented newcomer to barbershop singing, Mr. Close sings lead and his goal is to bring a smile wherever he may sing.
Marshall Allen is the bass, and one of the original members of Chorduroy. A retired warehouse manager and electrician, Mr. Allen has been a barbershopper for over 40 years and is a member of the Olean Enchanted Mountain chorus and the Bradford Mountain Laurel Harmonizers. Mr. Allen also sings with the quartet Stateline Straddlers.
Ted Norton sings tenor, a retired music professor from Houghton College. Mr. Norton also plays the woodwinds and has been a barbershopper for 20 years. He has been very active in Young Men in Harmony, teaching and encouraging many high school boys the craft of barbershop singing. He also sings tenor with the Stateline Straddlers and the Olean Enchanted Mountain chorus. Mr. Norton also sings baritone with the Salamanca Seneca Junction chorus.
Peter Kurzdorfer is the baritone of Chorduroy, he also sang baritone with Three Sharps and a Flat and bass with the Valentones as well as singing lead with the Olean Enchanted Mountain chorus and bass with the Seneca Junction chorus. A chess masterand former national magazine editor and author, Mr. Kurzdorfer is also a former church organist and cellist who has played and sung in many various groups, including orchestras, operas, and musicals.
