How to survive the winter in Western New York!
Last week the temperature in Olean, New York reached as low as -20 degrees, and that’s pretty freaking cold no matter where you’re from!
It doesn’t help that the roads are often covered with black ice, snow, sleet, hail, rain, Biblical sized floods or whatever else Mother Nature decides to throw at us on any given day.
Well I’ve lived in this area my entire life and have devised a few strategies to help you survive the frigid weather of WNY.
First off, if you live in WNY own a truck. If you don’t own a truck, date someone who owns a truck. If you lack social skills, make friends with your local snowplow man and bride him with brownies to memorize your schedule.
Secondly, always stay stocked with the essentials for winter weather! Hot chocolate, coffee, tea, Snuggies, rock salt, kitty litter, and a friend with a shovel are all necessary for life here.
Also, for all the commuters out there make sure you invest in AAA Auto services. As an experienced awful winter driver I can assure you it is money well spent. You never know when a deer, a snow bank, or tree is just going to jump out at you, and in this weather it’s nice to know someone will always come help you when you need it.
My final advice to every resident in WNY is to slow down in this weather. I understand everyone is busy, but taking extra time during the winter season for various precautions is smart and safe! Don’t find yourself in an accident because you didn’t brush off your windows, or slip on some ice because you were in a hurry.
Give yourself some extra time to get things done for the next couple of months and enjoy the winter wonderland of WNY while it’s still here. Hope everyone stays safe and warm!
