Renowned Russian National Ballet Theatre ballerina Elena Khorosheva will lead an advanced dance workshop Tuesday, March 15, at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Khorosheva, who has played major roles in the Russian National Ballet Theatre and Moscow Festival Ballet, will teach the free workshop from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the dance studio of the Sport and Fitness Center.The class is limited to 20 students, and registration is required.
“Students should be advanced and have at least four years’ dance training,” said Randy Mayes, director of arts programming at Pitt-Bradford. “Ballet training is good, but not required. The important thing is to not fill the class with beginners, but with experienced students where an intense workshop taught by a professional Russian dancer will be useful in their future development.”Participants should wear standard studio attire and ballet slippers or jazz shoes.
Just in time for the free workshop, new ballet bars will be installed in the dance studio.“These bars are being installed because of our commitment to booking a steady number of dance companies over the years,” Mayes said. “This is a direct result of the success of the Russian National Ballet, but they will benefit anyone needing to use them for stretching exercises, and I believe they will prove to be very popular and beneficial to all users of the dance studio.”
The Russian National Ballet Theatre will perform “Romeo and Juliet” at 7:30 p.m. March 15 in the Bromeley Family Theater of Blaisdell Hall. Tickets are $32 or $28 for the public, $28 and $24 for Pitt-Bradford faculty and staff, and $14 or $12 for students.
