When Sam Sylvester, the owner of The Option House in Bradford, P.A. insisted I come see his newly restored restaurant and pub he forgot to mention I would be turned utterly speechless at the grandeur of his establishment.

The Option House, located at 41 Main Street is one of Bradford’s historic landmarks and dates back to the early 1900’s.

The original Option House opened in the 1880’s next door to Bradford’s first Oil Exchange. Millions of gallons of oil were sold daily back then, and oil speculators would negotiate “option” contracts over drinks, hence giving the Option House its name.

The Option House recently underwent renovations to restore the badly-shaped building that was full of water damage and filth. After a year Sylvester, a Bradford native, was able to open the doors to a building he stated, “Had so much history it disserved more than just being a dirty college bar.”

The Option House’s first floor “Trading Room Lounge” has an old-style European atmosphere with its crystal chandeliers, working dumbwaiter, and original 1902 tile, fireplace, and molding. However, one of the most impressive features is the 62 foot long bar that dates back to the 1930’s.

The second floor, known as the “Peacock Parlor” is mainly used for private parties, banquets and special events but is also spectacular to view. A private bar, high ceilings, archways and a beautiful mural give the Peacock Parlor an elegance that is simply breath taking.

A full dinner, lunch, hors d’oeuvres, dessert, children’s menu and a take-out menu are available for customers. The menu is largely Italian cuisines, but offers family favorites like pizza and wings, to finer dishes like seafood and steaks. The signature dish is a Portobello Filet that is sure to quench your hunger.

Also, a wine list features a wide variety of fine wines, cognacs and champagnes that can be ordered by the bottle or glass. Casual dress is always appropriate at the Option House as well.

Dining hours are from 5p.m. until 10p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and the Lounge is open until 11p.m. on the same days, so whether you want a full meal or just a drink the Option House is a place you can enjoy either in a historic setting.
